Art of Change, New Directions from China

Catalogue design and exhibition graphics for Art of Change: New Directions from China, with Jackson Lam for the Hayward Gallery.
Art of Change focused on Chinese contemporary installation and performance artworks, concerned with transformation and discontinuity; something deeply rooted in Eastern philosophy. On the theme of change, a new book format was developed, inspired by qualities of traditional Chinese book production. Highlighting the momentary nature of the artwork, the structure of the book only enables the reader to see small sections of the artists’ work at first glance. Dazibaos, handwritten protest posters used during the Chinese Cultural Revolution, served as inspiration for the typeface selection, and played a key role in the design of the exhibition graphics, which looked at scale and low-fi methods of application.
