Fresco for Euro Cup
Mairie de Paris, 2016
Paris
Mural design commissioned by Mairie de Paris and the Swedish embassy.
On the occasion of the Euro Cup 2016, all 24 countries were collectively invited to create to create a one kilometer artwork along the bank of the river Seine in Paris.
Each country was provided with parameters: a toolkit of geometric shapes and colours, and rules in which they could be applied. With Sweden having the highest number of asylum seekers per million habitants, and football being the most widely played sport in the world, the design used the Swedish statistics of immigration to generate a maze, representing its cultural diversity. Just a couple of days after the completion of the painting, Paris was hit with flooding, bursting the banks of the Seine and ruining the artwork.
